This is the second book in my Quake Runner: Alex Kayne technological thrillers, and one of the books people rave about the most. So if you haven’t already enjoyed it, I think you’ll like it.
A little about Alex Kayne
Alex is definitely one of my personal favorite characters, and one who has some history outside of the books themselves.
First, she’s an actual, honest, strong female protagonist. But when I was writing her, the tropes I wanted to avoid from the “strong female protagonist” category were in the “make her a man with breasts” variety. I didn’t want a walking cliché, a rough and aggressive character wearing a feminine skin. You see that in films and television all the time. For some reason, there are writers who somehow cannot write strong women without casting them as “masculine.”
I grew up with strong women. My grandmother was one of the biggest influences on my life, and she was smart, clever, and capable. She had a dry and wry sense of humor, and even though she came up in a world where women were expected to live and behave and think a certain way, she was independent and fierce.
My mother is one of the bravest women I’ve ever known. She endured severe beatings from the man who became my brother’s father. And when he started beating me as well—a two-year-old child who couldn’t possibly have been a threat to him—she risked everything to get us both out of there. And years later, when I was perhaps seven or eight years old, I watched her stand with her arms wide, facing down a charging horse so that I could run past her and get to safety.
She doesn’t even consider herself brave.
These were the sort of women who showed me into the world, and they’re the kind of women I wanted to portray on the page. And I have, in Alex Kayne.
Alex is clever and brilliant. She thinks twenty steps ahead. She plans, she plots, she thinks about contingencies. But above all, the key, defining character trait for Alex is her empathy. She is being hunted for something she did not do, she’ll face a life in prison, or worse. And oh yes, Alex Kayne runs. But she also fights.
Alex sees that the world is filled with injustice. There are those who have been disenfranchised by the world. They’ve fallen through the cracks of the justice system. They are effectively ignored, left to suffer without hope.
Alex Kayne, along with her wondrous quantum based AI called “QuIEK,” brings them hope, and brings them justice.
That’s who Alex is. And that’s the character I love to write.
I hope you will love her as much as I do.
And if you read this book, or have already read it, I hope you’ll leave a review on Amazon and anywhere else you can think of. Positive reviews really help writers find their audience and make a living. I am grateful for every one of them. And I am grateful for every one of you.

I LOVE Alex!!!
