God Mode - Chapter 11
The real purpose of the Stack is revealed, and humanity has no idea what's coming.
Terry was calling.
Brate was wearing the portable interface, and in the upper right of his vision he could see the alert. Incoming Call.
Terry wouldn’t have any memory of what happened within the Guff, but it would be obvious that his plan hadn’t worked. Memories had been reinstated among billions of Stack users. But that had abruptly stopped, and Terry would know why.
Brate waved and denied the call. If he talked to Terry again, it would be after he managed to get out of this mess.
Slack was right—getting out of the building without being detected was going to be impossible. Or, at least, very difficult.
At the moment, Stack had him moving in a mapped-out pattern, starting from the backstage area where he was and slipping into a set of stairs to go down three flights. He emerged into another suite of offices, similar to what he’d stepped into on his first elevator ride up.
There were people here, but they weren’t seeing him. Everyone in this space was using wearable tech, and Stack was masking Brate’s presence. Instead of making him invisible, as it had with the Agents, this time it was just replacing him with the image of someone else. Someone who looked nothing like Brate.
No one raised any alarms, at least.
“Founder, you will need to enter the office across the hall and remain for approximately eight minutes and thirty-two seconds.”
“That’s an oddly specific approximate,” Brate whispered, even as he followed instructions.
