At 70, with 40 of those years in Asia, I'm grateful, at least in retrospect, that my Father has not always said, "As you wish." What I've experienced has been far better than what I'd planned for or hoped for--in spite of what I thought were failures. And I'm grateful to learn that He work through me instead of me working for Him. Once I firmly grasped that concept, it relieved me of the feelings of failure, regardless of circumstances, and as a consequence I've lived a very eventful and Purposeful life--in spite of the many problems that helped shape me into what I never expected to be. In the end, "As you wish" is fine because I've learned to only wish what He planned for me even before I was conceived in my mother's womb. What a life--to know that we, like David, have such a purpose in our generation.
Again, you have encapsulated moments all of us feel from time to time, and done it well. We are an impatient bunch, we humans!! And I agree that it's difficult to recognize some things we've asked for when they come "wrapped differently". Which is why I have learned (after many decades of living) to be careful what I wish for ... as it might just appear, even if disguised. Your words are not futile, talking to the wind. They are like a rock, tossed with faith into a pond. You may not see where the ripples go, or what they touch, but the *intent* will be propelled by your energy in sending them out. Sometimes it feels like nothing happens when you do. It does. Keep on blessing us with your words and energy. You do more good than you know.

Reading the "so whats" hurt my heart because your story in many ways sounds so much like my husbands. The two of you would probably have much to talk about if you ever got to meet. And I've spent many hours of our 29+ years wishing I could "make it right" and its been a lesson to understand that only God can do that. The "so whats" are the essence of our lives and of the work God does in us and through us. And in all of those "so whats" and all of those "prayers we're waiting for" and all of those "answered prayers" are how He makes us the warriors. "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:37" Thank you again for sharing your heart.
